Learning Disabilities

The aim of our education courses focus on delivering well planned and structured opportunities for individuals to learn and acquire new skills for personal growth and independence.

The development of new skills include those essential for communication, social development, confidence and relationship building, greater independence, practical hands on and vocational and skills to gain employment. To achieve this, courses are designed to challenge the learner in structured and engaging ways but also in a manner that makes learning interesting and fun.

  • Courses are Ten-week ‘rolling’ programmes enabling choice and progression.
  • Two hour sessions and all day specifically designed education programmes are available.

  • We deliver from a number of venues in Kent as well as at different organisations and individuals own homes.

  • £130.00 for one x 10-week course.
  • £390.00 for a whole day of programmes for 10-weeks.

Educational Courses


Adept offer a range of courses specifically designed for people with learning difficulties/ disabilities. Each course is structured to stimulate, inspire and educate the learner to not only succeed in their chosen subject, but to build the confidence and desire to learn more.

As well as off-the-peg courses, Adept offers a bespoke course design service, where working with guardians, care homes and students we can build a course that will deliver the most effective and enjoyable learning experience.

Music For All

This course provides learners the opportunity to experience a range of fun and stimulating projects involving music, singing and dance. Students will work together to explore and experiment with music to communicate thoughts, feelings and ideas. For more details download the full brochure.

Art For All Courses


Art and design stimulates creativity and imagination. It provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a unique way of understanding and responding to the world. Students use colour, form, texture, pattern and different materials and processes to communicate what they see feel and think. For more details download the full brochure.

Film Making Courses

Students will learn the importance of working together to share and develop ideas. Learners will demonstrate their skills in an end of course film show for parents, carers, managers etc and will take away a copy of their very own DVD film. For more details download the full brochure.

Drama Courses


This course provides learners the opportunity to experience a range of fun and stimulating projects involving drama. Students will work together to explore and experiment with acting, singing, movement and music to communicate thoughts, feelings and ideas. For more details download the full brochure.

In The Community


A popular course for learners that want to develop their social and independence skills and their ability to take direct control in their lives regarding where to travel safely. This course develops learners travel training skills. This course supports the governments ‘Personalisation’ agenda and the DOH ‘Valuing People’ 2001, ‘Our Health, Our Care, Our Say’ 2006. Sports for Fun


This course encourages participation of both indoor and outdoor sports and team games/events. Learners will have fun, be active and learn the importance of working in teams, social interaction and communication skills. Learners will be involved in games including indoor bowling, new age curling, Skittles, team parachute games and a range of different sports. For more details download the full brochure.

Literacy/ Numeracy and Communication Skills


Students will be involved in a number of structured and stimulating projects to improve reading, writing and communication skills. Projects are designed to make learning fun and at the same time enable students to focus on and practice these important skills in everyday situations eg going to the shops, understanding money values, budgeting, writing a shopping list, filling in forms, making appointments, going for an interview, going for a meal etc. For more details download the full brochure.

Computers


This course teaches students basic computer skills. Students will learn how to turn on and turn off the computer properly, create files for saving work and develop an understanding of different functions of the keyboard. Students will be involved in a number of projects that develop the use and understanding of the computer. Projects include creating a newsletter, writing, researching and presenting ideas and using software. This course also embeds the use of functional English and Maths. Photography


This course encourages creative expression through Photography. Students will learn to take a range of photographs, learning how to download and create sharp and creative images. Through a range of stimulating projects, learners will develop the skills, ideas and confidence to explore different forms of photography. Learners will work together on team projects and produce an end of course exhibition which will be shown locally. For more details download the full brochure.

Pottery


This course introduces learners to the very therapeutic subject of pottery and working in clay. Students are taught the necessary skills to produce a range of finished clay pieces from modelling to glazing. Learners will work on a number of fun projects, developing their confidence to express and communicate ideas. Cookery


Students will plan, prepare and cook a range of meals, snacks and treats for themselves and other people. Students will develop a range of cooking skills for independence and an understanding of cooking that promotes healthy living. For more details download the full brochure.

The Environment


Students will learn about the environment by getting involved in a number of projects ranging from recycling, conservation and volunteering. Students will work together to plan different trips and visits with an environmental interest and focus. For more details download the full brochure.

Bespoke courses


Adept has worked with a host of organisations and individuals to identify and develop tailored education programmes to meet a particular subject area or need. We have developed courses for a single person and for larger groups. Courses that we have developed and delivered include: Transport Training, Self Advocacy, Community Awareness, Horticulture, Environment Studies, Positive Communication, Personal Budgets, Interviewing Support Staff/Personal Assistants plus lots more.
